Hiking Zion Canyon

Hiking Zion CanyonZion Canyon - Zion Canyon is a six mile section of Zion National Park. Many of the classic, paved trails are found in the canyon and most visitors flock to these trails. From early April until late October, Zion Canyon is accessed via the Zion Canyon Shuttle, and the rest of the year the Zion Canyon Road can be traveled in your private vehicle. The Zion Canyon Shuttle picks up visitors at the Zion Canyon Visitors Centers and stops at several locations throughout lower Zion Canyon and Zion Canyon proper. Starting at the visitors enter the next stop is the Zion Human History Museum, Canyon Junction, Court of the Patriarchs, Zion Lodge, the Grotto, Weeping Rock and finally the Temple of Sinawava.

East Zion National Park - The east side of Zion Park is slickrock country. The monoliths there are spectacular, but most of the well known front country trails are located in Zion Canyon. Some of the best hikes are located in the east section of the park.

Kolob Hiking - There are two sections of the park called Kolob, one by Cedar City, Kolob Canyons, and another, Kolob Terrace , near the small town of Virgin. The Kolob areas are primitive sections of Zion National Park and few visitors venture to the gates compared to those that visit the main park of the park.

Suggested Gear: A sturdy pair of shoes are recommend to hike many of the Zion National Park Trails. Quality shoes will help grip the rocks and prevent injury. Experienced Zion hikers and canyoneers like the Sportiva Exum Ridge. This shoe is great for hiking, bouldering and canyoneering.
