Well known Canyoneer, Tom Jones, taking a break to capture images in the Subway. The Subway is a small, but beautiful section
of the actual slot canyon. Expect to swim in cold water and hike up a steep hill
for almost a mile to exit.

Kolob
The turn off for the primitive Kolob Terrace section of Zion National Park,
is in the town of Virgin. Drive 15 miles, south of the main section of Zion.
Watch for the small "Kolob" road sign. Follow the Kolob Reservoir Road
for 21 miles to remote and primitive Lava Point.
West
Rim from Lava Point
This 14 mile, overnight backpack, begins at Lava Point in the Kolob Terrace
section of Zion. The trail meanders through a forested plateau, then the last
5 miles it descends into Zion Canyon. For those who have not hiked to Angels
Landing, the short spur is one of the most spectacular hikes anywhere. The trail
can be hiked in reverse but transportation would have to be arranged for pick
up at remote Lava Point.
Kolob Arch
This strenuous, 14 hour round trip hike, ends at one of the world's longest free
standing arch. Kolob Arch measures
287.4
', making it about three feet shorter than the world's largest arch, Landscape Arch. This could change however as Landscape Arch is near the end of its lifecycle.
The
Subway
This popular, semi-technical slot canyon, is a strenuous 9 mile round trip,
that travels up the North Fork of the Virgin River. It winds through a unique
tubular slot with subtle lighting and charming pot-holes of water. The number
of hikers allowed on the trail, per day, is limited to fifty. You must obtain
a permit and bring the needed equipment and posses canyoneering skills.
Left Fork of North Creek
Few know that you can hike into the Subway from the bottom and avoid the obstacles, cold water swimming and other uncomfortable parts of a technical slot canyon.
Northgate
Peaks Trail
This easy, family suited trail, follows the eastern edge of Pine Valley to
a nice view point of the Guardian Angels of the Kolob.
North
Guardian Angel
The North Guardian Angel is on the Sierra Clubs list of the" top one-hundred
desert peaks to do." This trail is outside of the main section of Zion National
Park, in the Kolob Terrace. About 12 miles into the drive on the Kolob Terrace
road, there are some large " white Hershey kiss" shaped peaks. The
sandstone mound is Pine Valley Peak, (7428'), visible on the right. North Guardian
Angel (7408') can be seen behind and to the right of Pine Valley Peak.
Icebox
Canyon
Icebox Canyon is a technical canyon and should only be attempted by those
with canyoneering skills. The hike into Icebox is a strenuous, uphill bushwhack.
Once in the canyon, its a romp over boulders, through water to the Kolob Arch.
The end of the trail follows the Kolob Arch backpack trail back to the Kolob
Arch Trailhead.
