Zion Photo: Tanya Milligan in Zion's Subway.
I want to thank my best friend and hiking and canyoneering and partner, Bo Beck, for all his help in creating the hiking, backpacking and canyoneering section of this site for Zion National Park and the nearby parks and monuments. ~Tanya Milligan

If you're thinking of joining the world of canyoneering, be ready to lug a wetsuit up steep mountains, swim in dirty -ice cold water, climb up and down boulders, scale slick rocks and slide down ropes. Luckily for most of you there are tamer slots in park, such as the Zion Narrows.

Photo Tips - In Zion National Park, lighting is a challenge as the sun moves over the giant monoliths. Try shooting early in the day or using the shadows to create an artistic mood in the photo. With a digital camera the sky is often washed out and blends with the white mountain tops. Avoid times of the day when the sun shines directly on the tops of the mountains to help correct this.

Stay in the heart of the parks, Mount Carmel Junction, and visit the treasures of the Southwest and Utah.

I am Tanya Milligan and the author of this site. I grew up and lived in the Zion area most of my life. My grand parents homesteaded the land in Mt. Carmel Jct. in 1930 and I spent my summers hiking in Zion and enjoying this incredible place where I live and work today. I really started to explore Zion however, when I met my hiking partner Bo Beck. After we met we spent the next 8 plus years hiking almost every weekend without fail. Bo lives in Ivins, Utah and is well known in the outdoor world as a hiker, canyoneer and climber. Bo has lent his expertise to this site by writing the directions to the trails, canyons and climbs. Bo is my best friend and I trust him to take me just about anywhere and so he has done just that. Please enjoy the information we have and continue to provide here and share our love of Zion National Park

"I measure my hiking time with Tanya in pph - photo's per hour" - Bo Beck
